Nome “Snowicane”

Back in 2011 I was living in Nome AK. We were used to getting pretty big fall storms that would create huge waves with high winds but that November we got a storm that was big by even fall standards. The news dubbed it a “Snowicane“.

Brief from Scientific American

I wish I had taken more pictures of the event, but the only evidence I have of it is this brief video I took walking from my house to the homeless shelter where I volunteered that night. The video honestly doesn’t do the storm justice. It was so windy and snowy that the only real reference I had was following the glowing street lights to keep on track. At one point me and another person literally walked right into each other because we couldn’t see past our hands.
